I have used a lot of blog systems and visited hundreds more to run demos and look at the files. One week I even made my own blog system from scratch. I have learned which blog hosts are worth the time and which ones are not. Here are a few that are above average:

FreeFlux.net
More powerful than your ordinary blog, you can run a complete website off of this system and they haven't run ads in a very long time.
